Okanagan Chinese Cultural Association
Capital Project Q & A

Fundraising for the OCCA Communities Association’s 2-phase capital project was launched in July 2016. Since then, many friends have supported us with financial contributions to the campaign. Below are answers to the most commonly asked questions we have heard from our supporters.

  1. What are you going to build?

    Our project has two phases:

Phase 1a: A commemorative signage honouring Chinese Immigrant Pioneers was erected at the entrance of the City Park, near the site of Kelowna’s historical Chinatown. The Unveiling Ceremony was held on Oct 21, 2017.

Phase 1b: A Mural depicting Chinese heritage will be painted on the on the wall of Kelowna's Gospel Mission located in the center of the historical Chinatown. This project will be completed in 2018.

Phase 2: Acquisition and development of a permanent home for the Chinese and Multicultural Partnership Operation in the Central Okanagan.

  2. If the project cannot be completed, how will the funds be used?

We are confident that the project will be completed! We have a conditional agreement in place to purchase suitable land and building for our new facilities.

  3. How do you manage donated funds?

The OCCA Communities Association board of directors has formed a Fundraising Committee to manage fundraising activities and all funds raised. The committee consists of five people: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, General Administrator and one other Director.

Multiple short term GIC accounts under OCCA Communities Association have been holding the funds for our capital project. The use of these funds is restricted by donors and must be approved by a majority of Committee members before being used. Changing the purpose of funds requires a call for a General Assembly of OCCA Communities Association members and donors with approval from at least two-thirds of attendants.

  4. Is my donation tax receiptable?

OCCA Communities Association is a registered Canadian Charity; our tax number is 81410 3602. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 and over.

  5. How will my donation be recognized?

Family/individual donations over $500 or business donations over $1000 will be recognized permanently on an Honor Wall in our new facility.

Special considerations will be given for donations over $5,000 including but not limited to: a photo and brief biography, naming rights for a room or part of the building.

  6. How can I donate?

Donation checks to the order of Okanagan Chinese Canadian Association can be forwarded to any OCCA Communities Association board of directors or operation officers or mail to: OCCA Communities Association, 555 Fuller Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 7W8

Donations can also be made via Paypal to: account@occabc.ca
