Job Connect for Future

 

Are you a new immigrant or an immigrant facing multiple barriers on your journey to sustainable employment? The OCCA JCF program is here to support you on your path to success. This 6- month program, exclusively available in the Thompson-Okanagan region, is designed to provide tailored solutions for immigrants like you.

OCCA Introduction:
OCCA Communities Association is a non-profit umbrella organization formed by a partnership of several multicultural communities in Central Okanagan.

Program Introduction:

The OCCA Job Connect for Future (JCF) program is a 6-month initiative aimed at empowering immigrants facing employment barriers. It offers comprehensive services, including a 8-week certificate training program, employment readiness support to enhance job search and digital literacy skills, employment placement with wage subsidies, and personal development assistance. The program’s ultimate goal is to equip participants with the tools and opportunities they need to overcome barriers, secure employment, and thrive in their chosen careers.

 

Call for Application – OCCA JCF

Kindly be aware that our cohort 1 training scheduled for January-March 2024 is ended, and our cohort 2 training set for April-June 2024 have reached full capacity. Additional applicants will be accommodated in our cohort 3 training set for September-November 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, participants must:

  • Living in the Thompson-Okanagan area
  • Newcomers or immigrants facing multiple barriers
  • Achieve CLB 5 or higher
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada and BC
  • Be at least 19 years of age
  • Not receiving duplicative financial supports from another provincially or federally funded labour market program

 

Benefits of attending the OCCA JCF program

  • 8 weeks of free certificate training and coaching
  • Employment readiness and 3-month paid work experience*
  • Personal support including BC transit passes, daycare subsidies and meals

*3-month professional training will be covered if the participants cannot get employment

What Will You Benefit from JCF?

3-month free training, coaching & support + 3-month work experience with wage subsidies*

  1. Skills Training: 8-week certificate training program offered by Okanagan College. The hybrid classes will happen in Central Okanagan and virtually.
  2. Employment Readiness: Enhance your employability with personal management, teamwork, and job search skills. We’ll prepare you for interviews, application processes, and boost your digital literacy.

 

  1. Employment Placement: We connect you with job opportunities, create personalized career plans, and ensure culturally safe workplaces. 3-month wage subsidies, pre-onboarding support, and feedback mechanisms support your career growth.

* 3-month professional training will be covered if the participants cannot get employment

 

  1. Personal Supports: We provide extra assistance including covering your BC transit pass, lunches, daycare subsidies and digital equipment to be used in the classroom.

 

Our goal is to empower immigrants with the necessary tools to overcome barriers, secure employment, and thrive in their chosen careers.
