The OCCA Communities Association successfully held its inaugural Town Hall Meeting on October 6, 2024, featuring all BC provincial election candidates, with over 100 attendees from various ethnic groups and age demographics. This event provided an important platform for residents to engage with local candidates and discuss issues impacting the community.

Held at the Kelowna Downtown Library, the meeting was moderated by Fei Liu, Executive Director of OCCA, who noted that this is the first Town Hall Meeting hosted by the OCCA Communities Association, marking a crucial milestone in promoting civic involvement among the equity-deserving groups represented and partnered with OCCA in the Central Okanagan. Liu emphasized that while this event represents an important beginning, it is certainly not the conclusion; OCCA is committed to ongoing dialogue and future initiatives that empower community members to actively shape their collective future.

OCCA invited all 12 candidates in Kelowna and 3 candidates in West Kelowna, receiving 7 confirmations of attendance for the town hall meeting, along with one candidate who confirmed they would respond to questions in written format and 2 regrets.

Candidates introduced themselves and participated in a lively Q&A session, allowing attendees to ask questions and interact directly with those seeking to represent them. The strong turnout underscored the community’s dedication to being informed and involved in local politics.
